Introduction
Hi! My name is Jordan Davidson, I’m 22 and live in Middlesbrough, United Kingdom. Right now, I’m in my 4th year of studying BSc (Hons) Computer Games Programming at Teesside University. I have just completed my placement year with Schlumberger in Abindgdon, Oxfordshire (with a 2 month extension!).
Previous to my placement year, I had a 6 week internship with Tees Archaeology in Hartlepool through the BOOST Placement Scheme.
Through my internships and coursework, my focus is on gaining an appropriate, extensive skill-set of software engineering skills with a valuable range of ‘soft skills’ through my other roles.
My long term goal for the future is to work for a video games development firm as a games programmer.
Past and Present
I choose Teesside as their course is recognised as one of the best in the UK for games programming and so far, I’m really enjoying the course!
For my first year, I aimed to get at least 70% overall and through a lot of hard work and dedication, I surpassed that (just!) with 71% overall. I achieved 72% overall in my second year and I’m determined to top that for my final year!
A short summary of these skills I have are:
- C++
- C++11, STL and concurrency/multi-threading
- C# – 14 months experience with Schlumberger
- .NET 4.5, LINQ, WPF/MVVM and Windows Forms
- OpenGL 3.3/4.3
- Unit, Integration and Acceptance testing
- Erlang
- Perforce, Git, SVN
- Visual Studio 2012/13/15
- Agile/Scrum
